I cant exactly say what the be treatments are because I am not doctor, only a vic.tim of this horrible disease and then have only been getting treatment for it for the last 4 years, but I can say whats been helpful for me. Unfortunately though my main treatment as what has word be for me is not something that any doctor likes to prescribe to their patients, especially for long term, and it has come at a price. That treatment is a combination of opiates for the pain, prescribed by my pain clinic, and prednisone prescribed first by my former rheumatologist and is currently being prescribed by my primary care doctor till I can find a new rheumatologist. Of course most doctors in the US are shying away from prescribing opiates because of the risk for addiction and dependency and having to prescribe more and more to get the same effect over long term and some are even being forced by the government to lower their patients dosages because people in our government think they know better than our doctors how to treat us, but that is a whole big bag of worms I wont get into right now. The biggt help though has been the prednisone, but as most people that have ever had to take it know, its normally only short term and with high doses you usually have to be weaned off because it can cause issues if taken long term or a high dose is stopped suddenly. I have been on as much as 60mg per day, and as low as 5mg, for various issues over the years, usually bronchitis that likes to kick my butt every winter. Then about 2 years ago I started seeing a new rheumatologist after one I had been seeing moved. After telling this new doctor in a new office everything about me and treatments we had tried he sent me for a ton of tting before deciding what to do. Then as soon as he got the tt results from this very specialized and expensive tt he had his nurse call me to tell me he as putting me on 30mg prednisone and wanted to get me in to see him sooner as my next appointment was still 2 months away, and she was able to get me in a month sooner, though he wished they could have gotten me in even sooner than that. Anyway I started the prednisone that day and by the time I saw him I was feeling so much better and for the first time in 18 years all my hair was growing at once I was 36 at the time and had suffered with hair loss since I was 18, usually losing a patch here or there and when it would start to grow I would loss another patch somewhere else, but in the past few years its been almost complete hair loss most of the time and I even shaved my head once or twice because I got so fed up with just having tiny patches of hair. I thanked him so much for putting me on the steroids, and he was pleased with the results, especially being able to actually see the difference the steroids had with my energy and my hair that had gone from almost none existent at my previous appointment with him, to having no less than 1/4 inch of hair over my full scalp. I actually cried when I took him that he had gotten it to where all my hair was growing and healthy for the first time in 18 years and he even was keeping track of the hair growth with pictures he put in my file. He co.ntinued the 30 mg of prednisone for another month, and added another medition cant remember what it was as it didnt last long because of ineffectiveness and bad side effects, and sails after that month I was to start weaning of the prednisone hoping the other medition would have taken effect and I wouldnt need the prednisone so the following month I was to step down the prednisone by 5mg every 3 days so it was 25mg for 3 days, then 20 for another 3, 15 for days 7, 8, and 9, ect and on day 11 I was calling his office in tears because I felt awful. Literally everything hurt, I couldnt even get out of bed without help, my face got the lovely butterfly mask and I had a couple other rashes pop up, and I had no energy at all, but what hit me worse than all that which I recognized as a bad lupus flare and only temporary was that my hair was falling out in clumps all over the place and almost overnight I had several spots that were back to bald already. He immediately upped my dose back to the 30 mg, and kept mg there as we tried to figure out another medition that would wor.k, but then he fired me as a patient because I didnt have a vehicle and relied on medical transportation through my insurance that for whatever reason was suddenly having issues with being able to find transportation providers for my trips, and one provider kept denying my trips but would wait till the morning of my appointment to tell my insurance they couldnt take me, which made it impossible to find anyone to take me which caused me to have to cancel three appointments with him in 6 months at the last minute so even though I had no co.n
