Honeybees use a resin like substance to seal small crevices in their hive. This substance is know as Propolis.
Propolis, or bee glue, is a substance used by bees to build their hives. Propolis contains many beneficial ingredients that can strengthen the immune system. New research shows that propolis may also be able to reduce or prevent hair loss.
As per a study done in 2014, Japanese scientists believe the material could contain important clues for reversing hair loss & balding effect in humans.
The study, published in the Journal of Agricultural
and Food Chemistry, revealed that the team that
gave topical applications of propolis to mice that had been shaved or waxed, grew their fur back faster than those that weren’t given the application, the propolis actually increased the number of cells engaged in hair growth.
A second study, published in 2016 also found that propolis increased hair length and results in a greater percentage of hair follicles.
These results indicate that propolis stimulates hair growth by inducing hair keratinocyte proliferation, the researchers concluded. This indicates that in some cases, propolis may help stimulate the growth of hair follicles that have stopped producing hair- causing hair to grow even in balding individuals.
Some individuals have an allergic reaction to the ingredients in propolis. Before applying oil, test for a reaction on a small area of the skin first.
Pls NOTE: this doesn’t work if you have Male pattern hair loss/baldness. Also further study is still being conducted on propolis as regards to hair growth. So it’s NOT scientifically proven but has shown promising results.
